We are excited to announce our collaborative work for F**K Low Days and Other Sentiments, a book project produced with Queen Ex Literature.
Submissions Closed.
While we love looking to inspiring friends or therapy professionals to dig us out of the darkest holes, sometimes having a good book nearby is all you need. Introducing: F**k Low Days and Other Sentiments, a coffee table book of mantras, essays, and photography to aid women in surviving mental health breakdowns. We are looking for multiple types of media submissions to bring this collection to life.
Calling all women! We want to see you. Confident, unapologetic, YOU. Show us who you are on the best of days, to inspire a smile for readers during hard times. Contributors to F**K Low Days and Other Sentiments can submit:
- SELFIES either accompanied by a written piece, or standing alone to show off your glowing self. Front-facing, full-face selfies are preferred to full body mirror-style selfies. A high-quality, JPEG format is required.
- WRITING Diary entries, poetry, mantras, reflections on the expectations of women carrying the world, or advice you’d tell another person on how you deal with low days. Stories about and from women. Up to 750 words.
- Topics to consider include but are not limited to:
- Alone Does Not Mean Lonely
- False Evidence Appearing Real…F*#! It.
- Body Image / Self-Esteem
- Women Without Kids / Choosing to be Childless
- Happily Unmarried
- I Got Out of Bed Today
- Weakness? I Think Not!
- The Power of My Tears
- My Pain Does Not Define Me
Accepted submissions of writing and photos will be published anonymously in F**K Low Days and Other Sentiments. Contributors who wish to be identified will be listed in the back of the book.
Submissions will be accepted until March 1st, 2021. Please send submissions and any questions regarding this collection to us at pearshapedpress@gmail.com. Please indicate “Submission for Low Days + PHOTOGRAPHER or SELFIE or STORY or MODEL” in your subject line, and any inquiries or suggested sections for your piece in the body of the email. If your submission is selected to be featured in the collection, we will contact you via email with further instructions.
More Details
For written pieces, we’re looking for raw prose written by those who understand the ins and outs of having a true “low day.” That text paragraph you send a friend in the middle of the night when they have that sinking feeling again. That journal entry about your darkest feelings you swore you’d never share. We feel those things too, and we want to shed light on how to manage them together. Poetry submissions are welcome, however we’re mostly looking for essays or letters expressing the expectations put on women to carry the world (and maintain composure) and the advice you’d give another person about how you deal with inevitable low days.
